EARLY CHANCES

I fear

That I shall

Die

Before

As captain

I can leave the shore

And cross the oceans

Before they are dry

And the winds no more

I fear that

In learning I shall never do

That in preparing

I shall never go

I wish to steer my ship

Her name is Destiny

Out to sea

And prove

That my heart is true

That my arm is strong

That my eye is straight

And my manner commanding

That I don’t have to tell

What I have done

But stand alive

And have no fear

And be a man
