I Took My Suntan Lotion

I went looking for a Mermaid

I took my suntan lotion

It was at the seashore

Waves of illusion everywhere

I went looking for a Mermaid

I took my suntan lotion

The edge of the sand

The tide as low as can be

She smiled and talked with me

Our feet within the sea

I am looking at a Mermaid

I have my suntan lotion

On an island

That wasn’t there

She could be found

Only when the tide allows

I went looking for a Mermaid

I took my suntan lotion

The sea shell to my ear

The Mariachi Band

Guided me to her

My home she said

I was looking at an angel

I had my suntan lotion

A one legged Huron

Like a statue stands

The last island

The ocean says no more

I went looking for a Mermaid

I took my suntan lotion

Wave after wave

The sand gives way

We float as we kiss

Her touch softer than soft

I went looking for a Mermaid

I took my suntan lotion

We walk and the waves talk

Past islands that used to be

The Sun bakes the sand

The tide says we must part

I went looking for a Mermaid

I took my suntan lotion

Mermaid Island disappears

Tomorrow I will look

Past Starfish Bay

On an island that isn’t there

I went looking for a Mermaid

I took my suntan lotion
